Old Spool Fishing Charters

Matt has been a licensed US Coast Guard captain since 2011. Born and raised in California, Matt has loved fishing since childhood. Learning how to fish in freshwater lakes and streams in the Sierra Mountains quickly turned to an obsession on targeting larger gamefish in the Pacific. Beyond being a fishermen Matt is a true waterman. Having swam the 21 mile Catalina Channel, working six years as a local ocean lifeguard, surfing every chance he can, and coaching a local high school water polo team for eight years, Matt is constantly in or around the water. Eager to share his passion of the local fishery and it’s waters, Matt started running four passenger fishing charters and loves every minute he shares with his guests aboard Old Spool!
